This site aims to expose the secrets of the vibrant Melbourne night life to residents and visitors. We strive to provide reviews of bars and restaurants only after we have been to them and experienced the place for ourselves.

We have mapped the bars and restaurants reviewed so as to take the hassle out of finding the venue and to assist in the successful planning of a night out. Also we offer some Chasers to help plan a night out where we suggest several places to experience in an evening.

Finally, please feel free to leave a comment or email us and challenge our reviews or to tell us about somewhere new. We are always looking for new places to experience.

DECEMBER:

After a short hiatus we are now back.

Now things have settled after the shift its time for another edition of…THE GARNISH…recapping some things that have gone on around the Melbourne bar scene recently. In this edition; more awards for Melbourne Bars, new bars springing up around the place and more…

Recent Bar news in Melbourne:

There are a couple of new places that are about to open or have just opened in Melbourne to look out for:

Izakaya DenThis Sake and Tapas Japanese Izakaya bar has just opened in Melbourne. Hidden through a secluded entrance in Chiodo at 114 Russell street in the CBD it will certainly be a place to go visit.

Shebeen BarWhile not yet open this bar is starting to get themselves out there. Who are they? according to their website they are a non-profit venue that is:

“prohibited. a social pillar. a rendezvous for outcasts, boozers, the rich of life, the poor of opportunity. mama’s home-brewed firewater. beautiful music. kings and queens. exotic brews. life-changing projects. a brand new sustainable enterprise. a new melbourne bar. a place to drink to the future. and help others whilst doing so.”

Certainly sounds interesting, so watch this space as more information comes to hand.

The Age recently did an article covering them, by the sounds of it…its going to be a very interesting place to go.

Final word:

Thanks to everyone who has helped make the launch of alleylife.com.au successful, although while we are still finding small things around the place…we hope that it should be relatively change free from now on.

So go out and enjoy the Melbourne bar scene, go see somewhere new, maybe even try a chaser or two…because as has been seen by the awards in 2009…Melbourne is the best place in the country to get a drink!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
