Review:
The Rooftop Bar offers a very simple experience. Its a bar, on the roof of a 7 story building in the heart of the CBD offering some of the most amazing views of Melbourne on offer. There isn’t much more to the concept than that. There are large deck chairs out to lounge in during the day, and as night comes there is an open air cinema during the summer to entertain. Time up there is a lost entity as an afternoon can quickly pass by without much actually getting achieved, however you don’t really care that its happened either.
There is only one bar which can get quite busy if there are a lot of people up there, and believe me it can get VERY busy. There is a simple drinks menu on offer as it doesn’t need to, its in the same building as bars such as Cookie, and if you wanted something more substantial you would be there. The “venue” is quite small and can fill fast, so if you go then make sure that you are there early as there is usually a line and on a balmy night everyone has the same idea about where to head.
Over summer there are an extensive collection of activities that occur up there; the rooftop cinema runs through summer to the end of March showing recent and cult classics, while Friday afternoons there is a market which always offers a bargain.
Final Thoughts:
If its a fine day/night and it doesn’t seem too busy in the City, the rooftop bar is a must see and if you are a film buff it is certainly worth checking out what’s on show as it doesn’t disappoint.
