This site aims to expose the secrets of the vibrant Melbourne night life to residents and visitors. We strive to provide reviews of bars and restaurants only after we have been to them and experienced the place for ourselves.

We have mapped the bars and restaurants reviewed so as to take the hassle out of finding the venue and to assist in the successful planning of a night out. Also we offer some Chasers to help plan a night out where we suggest several places to experience in an evening.

Finally, please feel free to leave a comment or email us and challenge our reviews or to tell us about somewhere new. We are always looking for new places to experience.

Review:

I like to think of myself as a bloke, so when presented with the idea of going to Seamstress I was a bit sceptical. I spent the time working out how a cocktail bar based around sewing could work. However upon entering the colourful cocktail bar on the 2nd floor, I wondered why I had been weirded out so much.

The first thing you notice about Seamstress is the ceiling, hanging above the bar are cheongsams of all colours. This simple idea gives the bar a slight “Chinese laundry” feel and really creates a unique atmosphere to the place. Seating at Seamstress is very intimate, upon sitting down staff bring water to the table and ensure that everyone has water for their visit. The bar has a potential to feel very busy, however that said it is not hard to order drinks and have them made.

The cocktail menu is based upon flavours, and even though it is far from extensive, the drinks on there are well worth the visit. Experienced staff are also willing to modify menu items to suit, or fill you with facts about a unique cocktail, all adding to the Seamstress experience. Pricing for drinks at Seamstress is extremely reasonable compared to other places in Melbourne with cocktails around the $15-18 mark.

Final Thoughts:

Seamstress is a good place to start a night out on the town, or to sit back for a couple of quiet drinks and it is worth checking out.
