This site aims to expose the secrets of the vibrant Melbourne night life to residents and visitors. We strive to provide reviews of bars and restaurants only after we have been to them and experienced the place for ourselves.

We have mapped the bars and restaurants reviewed so as to take the hassle out of finding the venue and to assist in the successful planning of a night out. Also we offer some Chasers to help plan a night out where we suggest several places to experience in an evening.

Finally, please feel free to leave a comment or email us and challenge our reviews or to tell us about somewhere new. We are always looking for new places to experience.

The love for being as efficient as possible with a small space is demonstrated by this small bar. A perfect place to go and hide from invading giant robots whilst sampling sake or beers from throughout Asia.

Review:

The first thing you notice about Robot is how small it is, yet this bar works amazingly well in its inner city location and the interior has been designed to accommodate many aspects of the Japanese culture. This is further extended through the drinks menu, offering many Asian beers and spirits. Boasting Melbourne’s best range of Sake, from the traditional through to the celebratory, it is an experience that should be tried. For the more daring, there is even gold infused Sake, and after having a couple of drinks, the idea of consuming real gold flakes will make anyone feel like an Emperor.

Robot is popular with after work crowds as well as anime buffs, with Tuesday nights being their anime night. This busyness often flows out onto the alley, which can be a bit cold during winter (Sake comes in useful here). The toilets upstairs also remind one of an airplane toilet, with space being utilised to its maximum (or is that minimum) ability.

Final Thoughts:

On nights when Robot isn’t busy, this tiny bar will successfully export you from the inner city of Melbourne to the streets of Tokyo.

Pro’s:
+ Anime nights Tuesdays
+ Large selection of Asian beers and Sake
+ Well presented theme
Con’s:
- Very small (including bathrooms)
- Can get VERY busy after work

Score:

Atmosphere: 9
Service: 8
Menu: 7
Cost: 8.5

Overall: 8.1
