This site aims to expose the secrets of the vibrant Melbourne night life to residents and visitors. We strive to provide reviews of bars and restaurants only after we have been to them and experienced the place for ourselves.

We have mapped the bars and restaurants reviewed so as to take the hassle out of finding the venue and to assist in the successful planning of a night out. Also we offer some Chasers to help plan a night out where we suggest several places to experience in an evening.

Finally, please feel free to leave a comment or email us and challenge our reviews or to tell us about somewhere new. We are always looking for new places to experience.

Review:

The first thing that you will notice upon entering La La Land is a wooden staircase and a pot-belly stove, possibly leading you to think that maybe you’ve walked into the entrance way to a small Swedish house. As you push on upstairs it becomes apparent that this is actually an expansive Swiss chalet, occupying the whole top floor. La La Land has been furnished with inviting couches, a lofty roof, wide bar and sprinkled with a couple of fireplaces.

What you also may or may not see is space filled to the brim with people or only a few weary punters chilling out. La La Land is the kind of place that can be very popular with those in the know, so if you want a quiet one avoid peak times. When looking for something to quench your thirst there is the usual thoroughfare, however if your tastes are more exotic then maybe you should stop being so picky and relax.

Speaking of relaxing, that is exactly what you will be doing once you sit down in your couch of choice. Being so comfortable it becomes an effort to get yourself up to go get a drink and as service from the comfort of your sofa isn’t available then its a good excuse to go rounds. Before long you will waking up from, dare I say it, la la land (I know I know horrible pun) and look at your watch wondering where the hours have gone. As you walk out the door be thankful that unlike in similar places you won’t have to trudge home in the snow.

Final Thoughts:

Great place to go to relax during non-peak times, to catch up with old friends.

Pros:
+ Plenty of seating
+ Good place for the start of a night, or winding down at the end.
+ Relaxing atmosphere
Cons:

- Sometimes no seating
- Not a huge range of beverages
- Open plan can leave little intimacy

Score:

Atmosphere: Very Good
Service: Good
Menu: Good
Cost: Good

Overall: Good
