This site aims to expose the secrets of the vibrant Melbourne night life to residents and visitors. We strive to provide reviews of bars and restaurants only after we have been to them and experienced the place for ourselves.

We have mapped the bars and restaurants reviewed so as to take the hassle out of finding the venue and to assist in the successful planning of a night out. Also we offer some Chasers to help plan a night out where we suggest several places to experience in an evening.

Finally, please feel free to leave a comment or email us and challenge our reviews or to tell us about somewhere new. We are always looking for new places to experience.

Review:

For those that haven’t been paying attention thus far, Double Happiness is small, however unlike most applications of this term in reviews, this is a positive, as in this case it relates to terms like cosy, warm, and intimate. Double Happiness doesn’t try to hide its size, rather, it prefers to utilise its space efficiently and effectively with stools and long shared tables rather than sofas and individual seating, which means that when visiting, you meet everyone around you. This is the appeal of the place, it causes visitors to be removed from the usual and experience something a little different.

The bar its self is utilised efficiently, with no actual space for a DJ to fit (or for a dance floor) the bar staff play whatever music they fancy at the time. There is a fireplace against one wall to keep you warm on those cold winters nights too, however once there are a couple of people inside it naturally gets pretty warm anyway.

The Chinese theme is carried through the place with pro People’s Republic posters on the walls, encouraging visitors to strive for the greater good, while the bar offers steamer baskets of Chinese liqueurs, and for those that really want bottles can be purchased and kept behind the bar for later use. If you aren’t that sure about what to have, the bar staff are more than helpful to suggest something from the Chinese influenced menu, that will be certain to hit the spot.

Final Thoughts:

I realise this is a short review, but seriously, I am trying to keep to the theme here. Basically, don’t let its size put you off, Double Happiness is a great place to experience.
