This site aims to expose the secrets of the vibrant Melbourne night life to residents and visitors. We strive to provide reviews of bars and restaurants only after we have been to them and experienced the place for ourselves.

We have mapped the bars and restaurants reviewed so as to take the hassle out of finding the venue and to assist in the successful planning of a night out. Also we offer some Chasers to help plan a night out where we suggest several places to experience in an evening.

Finally, please feel free to leave a comment or email us and challenge our reviews or to tell us about somewhere new. We are always looking for new places to experience.

Review:

Blue Bar is a quintessential Melbourne bar that does a fantastic job of making the most out of a small space while not losing its sense of identity in the process. The bar is split into two sections, inside and out, with a central bar feeding both areas. Outside the bar spills out onto the street and is a great place to catch up with people at any time of the year, as the heaters out there in winter do a more than adequate job. Inside the simple interior makes sure that people still feel comfortable and there is surprisingly ample area for people to move about.

The menu at Blue Bar is quite good and has all the old favourites as well as some of their own specialities, and if something else takes your fancy they are able to cater for you too. On the side of the bar is the DJ station, giving a perfect opportunity for people to see the DJ’s skills at work. If that doesn’t take your fancy there is sometimes an old movie being projected against the wall, or you could just go play pinball or one of the arcade machines down the back.

The atmosphere is never imposing at Blue Bar and encourages patrons to just be themselves, which is in contrast to some places in the area. Staff there make sure that the place runs smoothly and are always able to offer something to hit the right spot if you aren’t sure what you want.

Final Thoughts:

This tiny little bar is hard to falter, and its laid back atmosphere makes it a perfect place to stop for a quick drink when passing through or sit in for hours and watch Chapel Street pass by.

Pro’s:
+ Cosy laid back atmosphere
+ Great staff
+ Indiana Jones Pinball Machine…come on, that’s a pro!
Con’s:
- It is quite small can be quite packed
- Can be quite loud inside
- Not a huge amount of seating when packed
